FOUR weary squads seek to immediately get back on the winning track in the face of a killer schedule as the PBA Governors’ Cup resumes on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Powerhouses Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer take on middle-of-the-pack clubs Barako Bull and Globalport, respectively, hoping to maintain their lofty perches in the standings.

Sent crashing back to earth after a 90-102 setback against defending champion San Mig last Sunday, the Kings take the court for the second time in three days in the 8 p.m. game against Barako Bull, trying to improve their 3-1 win-loss card and regain a piece of the lead with the Mixers.

But the league’s most popular team, still in the early stages of learning the triangle offense under rookie coach Jeff Cariaso, faces an Energy side that’s aiming to bounce back from a 93-96 loss to Rain or Shine last Saturday.

The Energy, in the bottom with a 1-4 record, expect another explosive performance from Eric Wise, whose 41-point, 19-rebound effort against the Elasto Painters went for naught.

Like the Energy, the Beermen are playing in their second game in four days, but are eager to regain their winning ways after suffering a 97-103 decision at the hands of Talk ‘N Text also last Saturday.

Behind pure-scoring reinforcement Reggie Williams, the Beermen aim for their fourth victory in six games as they collide with the Batang Pier, who appear to be the freshest among the teams seeing action as they last played on Friday when they lost to the Mixers, 82-92.

“With both teams coming from a loss, especially in a conference as short as this, each game’s stakes are raised higher,” Beermen coach Biboy Ravanes said ahead of the 5:45 p.m match against the 1-3 Batang Pier.

“With that in mind, and since we came up short last game, we look to recover and gauge ourselves for a tougher stretch ahead.”
