Commissioner's Cup Import Leon Rodgers

The name Leon Rodgers made headlines when the agent Sheryl Reyes announced on her Twitter account that the American will be Barangay Ginebra San Miguel's reinforcement for the upcoming Commissioner's Cup.

Rodgers is a veteran who turned pro in 2002. Listed at 6'7, this natural forward has travelled the world exhibiting his scoring prowess on the leagues he participated. He has been to Germany, France, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Colombia and China where he's currently playing for the Jilin Northeast Tigers.

During his collegiate career at Northern Illinois Huskies, he manage to put up averages of 21.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. Even though his name was not called in the 2002 NBA draft, his stats remained impressive. In terms of scoring, he averaged 19.9 for the Eiffel Towers Nijmegen (2005), 21.8 for the Eiffel Towers Den Bosch (2006), 35.0 for the Jilin Northeast Tigers (2009). While representing the Tigers, he scored more than 60 points in two consecutive games, one if which set a CBA record of 15 three-point shots made.

The highlights of his career happened while playing in the Dutch Basketball League. His team bagged the championships in 2006 and 2007. He was awarded with Statistical Player of the Year in 2007.  He made the DBL All Star in 2005 and 2007. He was part of the All-DBL Team in 2005, 2006, 2007 and became the league's Most Valuable Player. Three consecutive MVPs still stands in DBL record book. Leon Rodgers is tied with Keesh Akerboom, Sr but the latter won it in 1980, 1981, and 1985.

After his stint in the Chinese Basketball Association, he is expected to arrive Manila on February 24. While fans are waiting, they might have to settle on this video for now.
